‘Crystal Computing (Google Inc., St. Ghislain)’ is a video-based investigation of Google’s data centre in Saint-Ghislain, Belgium.
After I was rejected a visit to the data centre offi- cially, I made a secret research trip to Belgium. I collected DIY surveillance material from the surroundings of a huge industrial complex during four days. It is Google ́s biggest data centre in Europe. The work is an attempt to go beyond the white search screen and to concentrate on the material and local importance of the industry that is often hidden under a ‘cloudy’ PR rhetoric.
